CLEARANCE – LIKE NEW
Walter J. Phillips (1884-1963), an English-born Canadian, began his career as a water colorist but after emigrating to Winnipeg in 1913 he took up etching and then settled on woodblock printing. His prints, beautifully reproduced here in full color, were exhibited all over North America, earning Phillips the reputation as one of the leading Arts and Crafts woodblock printers anywhere. Apart from the many illustrations, the book presents three scholarly essays that describe Phillips’ life, his work, and the context of his achievements. You don’t hear much about this artist, but you will as his exceptional work is rediscovered.
