Description

The son of artist Charles Blair Leighton, Edmund Blair Leighton (English, 1853-1922) was educated at University College School and later at the Royal Academy Schools. Leighton specialized in medieval and Regency subjects in his decorative, fastidiously produced paintings.  Although not a member of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, his work is often associated withe Pre-Raphaelite and Romantic styles of painting.  He began exhibiting at the Royal Academy in his early twenties and continued to do so annually for the next forty years, yet he never became an Associate or an Academician.
