Description
A member of the renowned group of artists known as the Glasgow Boys, Edward Arthur Walton (Scottish, 1860–1922) was primarily interested in landscape painting but was a gifted portraitist and painter of village life as well. Inspired by developments in the landscape genre in France, Walton and the Glasgow Boys sought to explore the natural effects of light in the open air. Though Walton studied at the Glasgow School of Art, he gained most of his experience painting with his friends in rural eastern Scotland. He was elected to the Royal Scottish Academy in 1905 and became president of the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Water Colour in 1914.
