Marion Mahony Griffin was the second woman to graduate with an architecture degree from MIT and the first woman in America to become a licensed architect. She was Frank Lloyd Wright’s first professional employee, working with him for more than a decade. (Not surprisingly, she was not a fan.) She then teamed up with fellow Chicago architect Walter Burley Griffin, playing an indispensable role in helping him to win the prize for the design of the new Australian federal capital, Canberra. Her drawings were sheer magic, and they are celebrated today as important works of art in themselves. This is a thoroughly researched, well-written, account of a very interesting life and times.
